Where Is Common Sense Hiding?
Katherine Helmond shared an old Texas truth with me years ago: “that boy got a heap of book learning but he ain’t got an ounce of common sense!”
Common Sense – what a concept! Some people would claim that it doesn’t exist anymore. I believe it is simply hiding among the common people who know much more than their polished brethren and don’t feel the need to showcase their knowledge. The highly educated often become so enamored with their liberal and progressive theories that they are unable to see or accept the error of their ways – even when confronted with irrefutable evidence.
Winston Churchill said, “No matter how beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally look at the results.” Alvin Bragg, George Gascon and their misguided compatriots are wreaking havoc on New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, and Chicago. They are compounding the problems they face every single day.
It is not surprising to me that our country is more divided today than it was in the 1960s. I confess that I began adulthood as a Democrat in California. I naively believed that if you try to help people they will be grateful and reform themselves. I discovered that is not how human beings respond.
When laws are not enforced, people tend to become even more lawless. That would seem to be common sense but it’s surprising how few people recognize this truth. Subway crime, homelessness, drug addiction and violent behavior grab the headlines but it all stems from the inability or sheer refusal to enforce the law which never ends well.
While the optimist in me hopes they are able to see the error of their ways and change, the realist in me knows that it will get much worse before the common sense of the people of America grabs hold and helps vote our liberal lunatics out of office permanently.
