JOY TO THE WORLD

We need a shining star to guide us. Where is that star now that led the three wise men to the manger in Bethlehem over two thousand years ago? What can we do to bring that star back to help guide this crazy, materialistic world back to sanity? 

Christ was born under that star and laid the moral groundwork with a life of love and service embodied in his two commandments, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and soul and mind and thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.”

When the wise men told Herod of their quest to pay homage to the newborn king, he immediately executed 40 innocent children. Mary and Joseph and Jesus escaped to Egypt. Evil does not tolerate threats to its existence and will say and do anything to retain its power. 

Our world today is filled with lies and half-truths. A lie today can travel faster and farther than ever before. Modern media often glorifies the evils that men do. Money, sex and power are held up as the only worthwhile goals for mankind to worship and adore. I disagree.

“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” 

When I see so many evil ideas trying to infect our minds, I question if my small efforts to shed light on the truth will have any positive effect. 

And then I remember what Gandhi said: “Whatever you do will be insignificant, but it is very important that you do it.” 

Okay, I pledge to live each day the way I believe my Creator intended. I pledge to spread truth, good will and happiness wherever I go. I promise to teach good habits to others not by mere words, but by example. I vow to laugh and live and love and to seek joy every day for the rest of my life.

Oh, what a wonderful world this can be.
