Sir Winston Churchill 1874-1965
British Politician & Statesman, Prime Minister of England 1940-1945 (WWII) and 1951-1955

 Great Truths

A nation that forgets its past has no future.

If you’re not a liberal at 20 you have no heart, if you’re not a conservative at 40, you have no brain.

However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally look at the results.

You don’t make the poor richer by making the rich poorer.

A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.

The empires of the future are the empires of the mind.

If you are going through hell, keep going.

Never, never, never give in!

A fanatic is one who can't change his mind and won't change the subject.

We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.

Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.

A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is.

Healthy citizens are the greatest asset any country can have.

Difficulties mastered are opportunities won.

If you have ten thousand regulations you destroy all respect for the law.

A state of society where men may not speak their minds cannon long endure.

It is a fine thing to be honest, but it is also very important to be right.

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, it’s inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.

The main vice of Capitalism is the uneven distribution of prosperity. The main vice of Socialism is the even distribution of misery.

Life can either be accepted or changed. If it is not accepted, it must be changed. If it cannot be changed, then it must be accepted.

We contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle.

It is a socialist idea that making profits is a vice. I consider the real vice is making losses.

Kites rise against the wind, not with it.

The price of greatness is responsibility.

Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.

You can always count on Americans to do the right thing - after they've tried everything else.

History is written by the victors.

Courage is rightly esteemed the first of human qualities…because it is the quality which guarantees all others.

It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried.

This report, by its very length, defends itself against the risk of being read.

There is no such thing as public opinion. There is only published opinion.

Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.

Never run away from anything. Never!

I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat.

There is nothing government can give you that it hasn’t taken from you in the first place.

The best argument against democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter.

I’d rather argue against 100 idiots, than have one agree with me.

An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last.

It is no use saying, 'We are doing our best.' You have got to succeed in doing what is necessary.

One man with conviction will overwhelm 100 who have only opinions.
